Instrument Ranges

Each instrument is configured with realistic ranges based on skill level:

  • Beginner - Conservative range that's comfortable for new players
  • Intermediate - Extended range for developing musicians
  • Advanced - Full professional range

The AI automatically stays within appropriate ranges based on your selected difficulty level.

Transposing Instruments

Some instruments are transposing (they read in a different key than they sound):

InstrumentTransposition
Clarinet (Bb)Sounds a major 2nd lower
Trumpet (Bb)Sounds a major 2nd lower
Alto Sax (Eb)Sounds a major 6th lower
Tenor Sax (Bb)Sounds a major 9th lower
French Horn (F)Sounds a perfect 5th lower

Noteshift handles this automatically - you'll see notation in the correct transposed key for the player.

Multi-Instrument Pieces

You can request pieces for multiple instruments:

"A piano duet"

"Violin and piano duo"

"String quartet (2 violins, viola, cello)"

The AI generates separate parts with appropriate voicing for each instrument.
