FAQ
Frequently asked questions about Noteshift.
General
What is Noteshift?
Noteshift is an AI-powered platform that creates sheet music from text descriptions. Describe what you want, and our AI generates playable, editable notation.
Do I need to know how to read music?
No! You can describe music in plain language ("a happy piano melody") and the AI handles the notation. You can also use playback to hear what's generated.
Is the music I create original?
Yes. The AI generates original music based on your prompts. It doesn't copy or reproduce existing songs.
Creating Music
How specific should my prompts be?
The more detail you provide, the better the results. Include instrument, style/mood, and any specific requirements (key, tempo, length). See Describing Music for tips.
Can I request specific songs?
No. The AI creates original music only. Requesting copyrighted songs or specific melodies from existing songs won't work.
Why does the AI ask me questions?
If your request is missing key information (like instrument or style), the AI asks clarifying questions to give you better results. You can also click "Surprise Me" to skip questions.
What's the maximum length of music I can generate?
There's no strict limit, but very long pieces may take more time to generate. For best results, request reasonable lengths (8-32 bars) and iterate.
Editing & Export
Can I edit the music after it's generated?
Yes! Use the Edit Studio to transpose keys, adjust individual notes, or edit the ABC notation code directly.
What format is the PDF export?
PDFs are formatted for standard letter paper (8.5" x 11") with professional music engraving.
Can I import my own ABC notation?
Not currently. Noteshift is designed for AI generation. We may add import features in the future.
Audio & Playback
Why doesn't the audio play?
Check that:
- Your browser allows audio (check for a blocked audio icon)
- Your device isn't muted
- You're using a supported browser (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge)
Can I change the playback tempo?
Currently, tempo is set in the notation. To change it, edit the ABC code or request a different tempo when generating.
Why do some instruments sound different?
We use different sound engines for different instrument types. Acoustic instruments use sampled sounds, while synthesizers use generated audio.
Account & Billing
Do unused credits roll over?
No. Generation credits reset each billing period.
Can I get a refund?
All payments are final. Please try the Free tier before subscribing.
What happens if I cancel?
You keep access until the end of your paid period, then revert to the Free tier. Your notations and favorites are preserved.
How do I delete my account?
